Open gearing is something many of us see & use every day. Mill, agglomerator drum, dryer, calciner and kiln drives make our most critical process equipment run, so how do we keep them running at the lowest cost per ton possible? What parameters are important when setting up and running an open gear drive or checking it over during a down day? What kind of open gear drive do you have and what are some of its special needs? Mark Davis holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Arizona University. He has 20 years of experience as an engineer working with power transmission systems and pumps, and over 25 years of experience as a welder, machinist and mechanic. He works in Engineering and Sales for Keto/Arizona Pump and Machine and is based in Cave Creek, AZ.
